We present a video of a fast build of the Hurricane Mk I in 1/48 scale. Building an aircraft model in a single day sounds like a recipe for compromises. But not when Josef Choreň (DetailScaleModels) is at the workbench.

Josef has published a video of building our Hurricane Mk I 1/48, completed as a “24h build” challenge. Net build time: 23 hours and 18 minutes. What stands out is not only the speed — but the coherence of the final result. The model does not look rushed. The weathering is balanced, the details are crisp, and the overall presentation feels natural and calm. It is a Hurricane that works as a complete aircraft.

Fast does not mean superficial

A 24-hour challenge forces decisions. There is no room for unnecessary corrections or overcomplicating the process. That is why builds like this often show what truly matters in a kit — engineering, fit, and logical assembly.

What makes a 24-hour build possible?

In his message, Josef wrote that when building with a time limit, he follows three simple rules:

  1. a good kit
  2. only basic modifications that will actually be visible
  3. use only techniques that have been thoroughly tested before (modifications, painting, weathering)

This approach explains a lot. A time-limited build is not about rushing, but about conscious decisions — knowing what to do, what to skip, and where to draw the line.

We are pleased that Josef chose our kit as the basis for this test. Especially since — as he wrote himself — he was very satisfied with the final result.

At the end of the post, we also publish high-resolution photos.
