Model Hawker Hurricane Mk I in 1/48 scale from Arma Hobby is one of those kits that quickly gained recognition among modelers. Today we present a gallery of a model built by Maciej Noszczak, depicting an aircraft of No. 303 Squadron during the Battle of Britain.
Maciek chose the classic RAF camouflage scheme from 1940 and added operational wear that highlights the character of an aircraft used in the intense air battles over Britain.
Maciej Noszczak:
“I built the Hawker Hurricane Mk I from Arma Hobby in 1/48 scale in the markings of one of the aircraft from No. 303 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. The kit makes a very good impression right from the start – the parts are precisely designed, the fit is very good, and the whole building process goes smoothly and without problems. The model is very enjoyable to build while still delivering an impressive final result.
For painting I used Gunze C-series paints to reproduce the classic RAF camouflage of 1940. After applying the markings, the model received weathering using washes and modeling oils from ABT Oils and AK Interactive, which helped highlight the surface details and panel lines.
As small additions, I introduced minor improvements to the landing gear – I added thin wire to the struts to represent hydraulic lines. Finally, the model was sealed with Lucky Varnish matte coat, which evened out the finish and gave the model a realistic overall appearance.
The model looks very impressive and is a great example of how a well-designed kit can combine an enjoyable building experience with a high level of detail. It looks especially interesting displayed together with the Hurricane Mk II from Arma Hobby built by my son Ksawery – the two models stand side by side and nicely show the development of this aircraft.”
