New from Arma Hobby – key features and test shot preview

In the coming weeks we will deliver into your hands the P-51D Mustang in 1/72 scale. The kit had to wait a little while, as we wanted to complete it to the highest possible standard, building on the experience we gained with our previous models.
Today we present the basic features of the new kit along with a few photos of the first test shots. In the following weeks we will cover these topics in more detail on our blog, in the newsletter, and on Arma Hobby social media.

Variety of options

Straight from the box, the kit allows you to build:

  • P-51D, P-51K and F-6D/K (reconnaissance)

  • three canopy types

  • fabric or metal tailplanes, two different dorsal fin fillets or no fillet at all

  • two propellers: Hamilton Standard and Aeroproducts, each with correct spinners

  • two lower forward fuselage variants

  • two seat types

  • three styles of front fuselage ventilation openings

  • two exhaust types

  • underwing stores: 250 lb bombs, two types of drop tanks (75 gal and 110 gal paper)

  • additional antennas and radio compass

Thanks to this, if you have decals for your favourite Mustang from WWII, you can easily use them on this kit.

Unique design solutions

This is the only plastic model kit on the market with simulated filled  with putty panel lines on the wings – something many of you have pointed out in comments and emails as particularly troublesome and time-consuming to reproduce in other kits.

When designing this kit, we aimed for maximum simplicity and ease of assembly. Surface detail was adapted to the 1/72 scale — including screws and dzus fasteners — to add realism without overwhelming the airframe.

The cockpit interior, wheel bays and radiator ducting have been designed with great attention to detail, while still keeping assembly intuitive and convenient for painting during construction.

The canopy has been designed to naturally sit on the fuselage spine in the open position, without the need to “force” it into the cross-section curvature.

We have also included a clear plastic jig stand to support the model during assembly and transport, ensuring the landing gear sits at the correct angle.

Top-quality decals

The kit comes with decals printed by Techmod, known for their outstanding quality:

  • even the smallest maintenance stencils are legible in this scale

  • emblems and instrument faces reproduced with superb precision

  • decals conform well to surfaces and react properly to setting solutions

  • three colourful marking schemes included in the kit
