Alexander Pavlygin, owner of the Ukrainian company FOXBOT, which produces high-quality decals for model kits, sent us a sample of his production to try out. The shipment included three sets, each for a different modeller.
FOXBOT is a Ukrainian company based in Kyiv. Their decals are offered in a variety of scales from 1/144 to 1/32, mainly aviation, although there are also some for vehicles. There are contemporary and historical sets on offer.
What Alexander sent us were two sets that fit perfectly with Arma Hobby kits and one contemporary, from the ongoing war – FOXBOT is also known worldwide for producing decals precisely for the Ukrainian aircraft currently defending their country against Russian aggression.
P-39 Airacobra 1/48 – Soviet Aces
The first set in question is a great addition to the Arma Hobby range. More than half of the Airacobra fighters of all versions produced were sent as part of Lend-Lease to the Soviet Union, where they became equipment of elite, Guard units. It was on Airacobras that the most successful Soviet pilots flew and won their victories: as many as five of the top 10 list!
FOXBOT has selected the most interesting markings of the Soviet Airacobras of the various versions, so that you can, if you wish, build your Arma Hobby model in Soviet colours as well.
The set instructions also include the exact layout of the various stencils, but in 1/48 scale FOXBOT sells decals with stencils as a separate product.
Using FOXBOT decals in 1/72, Enzo Acorda from the Philippines built a beautiful Arma Hobby Airacobra with a sea eagle marking – see gallery:
P-51 Mustang in 1/72 – Teeth and Girls
FOXBOT’s second offering for Arma Hobby kits includes interesting markings for Mustangs: ‘pin-up girls’ and ‘shark mouths’. The set includes attractive paintwork and markings for American Mustangs of various versions, from A to D.
The set in 1/72, as is typical for FOXBOT, also includes a separate decal sheet with clearly and crisply printed stencils.
The FOXBOT decals look very good, the printing is crisp, with no offset, the colours are strong and uniform (there are no pixels visible) and the surface of the thin film is stylishly satin.
Mig-29 – Defender of Ukraine
The third set Alexander sent us is a decal for the famous MiG-29 in pixel camouflage with a Ukrainian trident on the back (tactical number ‘white 57’).
The decal sheet includes all necessary national, tactical markings, and a complete set of Ukrainian stencils. Self-adhesive masks for painting pixel camouflage are sold separately by FOXBOT.
The decal should fit all commercially available Mig-29 9-13 model kits.
