Model already familiar to you — the gallery of the aircraft itself was published two weeks ago. Today it’s time for something that completes the whole: the base, the setting that gives my P-51D Mustang a second life.
How I wanted to showcase our new model
It started with an idea — I wanted the model to sit on a solid, geometric plinth with a big, blocky inscription. The first sketch was made spontaneously on a desk pad.
Next came the 3D concept. I placed the lettering on the side walls of a cuboid measuring 10 × 10 × 5 cm.
I printed the base on an FDM printer, straight in black — no painting needed. If, after reading and viewing the gallery, you’d like to make a similar one, you can download the 3D file from our store by ordering the free file:
This small surface isn’t a diorama yet, but…
I wanted to give the presentation a bit of context and life. So I used PSP plates from our accessories set, laying them slightly askew. I made the plate edges overlap, and filled the ground between them with Tamiya two-part putty. After painting, I added a few details to enliven the scene and help convey the scale of the aircraft: a barrel, a crate, a small jerrycan, wheel chocks, and a fire extinguisher. All these parts come from our free 3D files set with the PSP plate.

The pilot figure is from a very nice set by the Polish manufacturer White Stork Miniatures. Definitely worth a look:

A second life for the Mustang
I placed the Mustang diagonally across the base — it suited the blocky, geometric form better. The model is not permanently attached, so you can lift it off at any time to view the underside details and weathering.
I wanted the whole composition to be clean, modern, and focused on the model, yet with a touch of “life.”
How do you like this form of presentation? Would you consider something similar for your own models?
