The Airacobra P-39N was the first version of this fighter produced in a large series – over  2000 machines – more than half of which went to the Eastern Front as part of Lend-Lease, where most of the top Soviet aces of various nationalities flew them, including the famous Ukrainian teacher, Ivan Babak.

The US Air Force also used them in large numbers, both for training and in combat, in the Pacific and the Mediterranean. Many Cobras N were later transferred to the Allies especially in this theatre of operations, particularly to the French and Italians. In our 40011 P-39N Airacobra 1/48 box, you will find an American shark-mouthed marking from Corsica and two aircraft of the famous aces: a Ukrainian from the Soviet Air Force and a Frenchman.

Kit markings: US, Ukrainian and French

We present the markings included in Arma Hobby’s latest Airacobra box. For the N version, as in the 1/72 kit, we have chosen three very interesting schemes: a Soviet one (the personal aircraft of the Ukrainian ace), an American one (from a squadron operating over the Mediterranean and Italy) and a French one from Algeria, the aircraft of the commander of the legendary GC 1/4 Navarre Fighter Group. The decals for these will be printed by Techmod.

P-39N Airacobra 42-18354. 345th Fighter Squadron, Sardinia-Corsica, spring 1944.

P-39N Airacobra 42-9033 „White 01”. 100th Guards Fighter Regiment, pilots: Ivan Babak and Grigoriy Dol’nikov, 1943-1945 (two variants). Ivan Babak received the aircraft from the residents of Mariupol. Initially, the fighter had no inscriptions painted on the nose, but a silhouette of a winged Nike. After Babak was shot down by the Germans (on another aircraft), the machine was taken over by Grigory Dolnikov, who painted the slogan ‘For Vanya Babak’ on the nose of the aircraft. Kit decals allow for both variants of this marking.
