As many of you are well aware, it is Japanese aviation that interests me the most. And Nakajima Ki-43 II Hayabusa is one of my favourite aircraft. I’ve already built Hasegawa and Special Hobby models, but I’ve been eagerly waiting for a long time for some manufacturer to release a really decent kit of this version of this beautiful aircraft. Well, and I have lived to see it!
First model completed!
I started building right away when I got my hands on the test sprues. As a result, I am the first modeler in the world to assemble Arma Hobby’s Ki-43 II Hayabusa model!
The model assembles very pleasantly, I particularly liked the fine trailing edges of the wings and empennage, reflecting well the lightness of this beautiful aircraft. A little extra work was required on the vertical stabiliser and rudder, which, at least in the test mouldings, had a bit of flash, but once cleaned up looks very fine and realistic.

I painted the model with Colourcoats Nakajima Army Green enamel, the bottom with classic Gunze C8 silver. Before doing this, I did some light preshading with black along the panel lines and then ‘tiled’ the panels with Gunze yellow and blue, with the darker paint closer to the fuselage and the wing tips lighter (more yellow) to reflect the natural camouflage paint fading effect seen in the real aircraft photos.
The colour Aotake used in the wheel wells, flap rails and the interior of the engine cowling I used from the Gunze palette.
For the cockpit interior, I used Nakajima Interior Green from Aeromaster Acrylics Warbird Colors Series.
I am very pleased with the result – the finished model is very impressive.
