Freshly printed instruction sheets and boxes for the 70073 P-51D VLR Mustang\u2122<\/strong> kit have just arrived at our warehouse. That\u2019s a sign we\u2019re now on the final stretch before shipping begins. If everything goes according to plan, the first parcels should start leaving us on Monday.<\/p>\n

Today we\u2019re showing the complete instruction booklet for the kit. Inside you\u2019ll find not only the standard Mustang assembly, but also the features specific to the VLR \u2013 Very Long Range<\/strong> version: new drop tanks, HVAR rockets, and the weapon configurations used during escort and strike missions over Japan.<\/p>\n

This is one of those instruction booklets that really shows how different the Iwo Jima Mustangs were from the more \u201cEuropean\u201d P-51D variants. Long-range flights over open ocean required different equipment, additional fuel tanks, and constant compromises between range and firepower. We tried to reflect that in both the kit configuration and the instructions themselves.<\/p>\n
