On August 19, 1942, the Allied navies, ground and air forces carried out Operation \u201cJubilee\u201d – a beach landing in the French city of Dieppe on the east coast of Normandy. The history of this event has been described many times, we decided to focus on the participation of Hurricanes in this operation in connection with the newly released double set of 1\/72 Hurricane Mk.II A\/B\/C “Dieppe” Deluxe Set model kits. The Hawker Hurricane, next to the Spitfire, was the primary RAF fighter in 1940; two years later performed different tasks: night, intruder, fighter-bomber. Over Dieppe, regardless of the squadron’s specialisation, Hurricanes carried out ground attack sorties, supporting the landing Canadian infantry.<\/p>\n

The stunning boxart illustration of the kit, by Piotr Forkasiewicz, shows a typical scene from the morning landing: on the beach, from the LCA crafts, Canadian infantry is landing. You can also see Churchill tanks from the Calgary Regiment. The ground forces are supported by close Hurricane intervention – the bomber Hurricane Mk. IIB of the No. 175 Squadron, followed by a black Hurricane Mk. IIC from the No. 43 Fighter Squadron, assigned that day to strafe the enemy positions with its 20 mm cannons.<\/p>\n
